Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is the only top Florida leader to stand up for taxpayers and call out the red flags in the CSX deal.

During the heat of last year’s legislative session, when other Cabinet members appeared invisible, Sink spoke up in concern. If the state promises to pay for CSX’s accidents on the commuter line, she said, lawmakers would be exposing taxpayers to enormous risk.

"While the expansion of commuter rail is a laudable and important component of wise transportation planning, Florida's taxpayers should not assume an undue amount of liability," she wrote.

“Taxpayers will be responsible for paying the bill in several scenarios, even if CSX is completely at fault. … At a minimum, I respectfully encourage you to limit the liability provisions above to the CSX corridor acquisition and prevent future negotiations from happening under the cover of darkness. “

Sink’s inquisitive mind and sound fiscal stewardship is serving Floridians well. Check here often during the legislative session to follow Sink’s performance on behalf of citizens. We’ll keep you posted.

We are counting on the CFO to take a stand against this. Please, CFO Sink, stand up against this. What is happening here is wrong and rotten. We cannot afford this right now. We need this money for our public school children and our seniors on Medicaid. Please stand up and tell these people this is a very bad deal for Florida. How many irresponsible deals do these people have to cut before somebody stops this???!!!?!!!!

Sink has not ben afraid to do what she thinks is right. I hope she speaks out on this one. The taxpayer should not get stuck with this very smelly raw deal.

Didn't Alex Sink write a letter last year telling how bad this deal is? Why would the state pay her to be the Cheif Financial Officer and not listen to her when she does her job? Poor leadership in the house and senate with personal agendas if you ask me.

It's time for someone in leadership to speak against the enormous financial exposure facing taxpayers if the CSX deal is closed.
Yes, the organizations that fund political campaigns are aligned behind the Train To Nowhere, but this $2.66-billion deal would take just 3,600 cars off Central Florida roads. At the same time, it would put 1,500 big trucks on area roads every day, from a taxpayer-built railyard in Winter Haven.
Who thinks this makes good economic sense?
Please, CFO Sink, speak up!

Maybe someone think that he have no income and he is not the taxpayers. This view is wrong. When you buy some goods then you pay taxes to the state.
